Re: Carrie Fisher “Outing” John Travolta

First I have to say, it’s hard to really out someone who has already been outed several times in the past.

Carrie Fisher has “outed” John Travolta in a interview withe the avdocate, which can be found here.

There have been a number of people who have said that John Travolta shouldn’t be outed and that people should respect his privacy. Normally I would definitely agree. Normally I would think it incredibly disrepectful for Carrie Fisher to have done something like this. This, however, is not a normal circumstance.

John Travolta is not some innocent star who is having his privacy invaded at the hands of the media and paparazzi. No John Travolta is a man who is heavily involved with a religious organization (read cult) that believes it can cure homosexuality and that it is something that needs to be cured. He has contributed boat loads of money towards an organization that works against the Queer community. He SHOULD be outed.

People like John Travolta are no different from the Ted Haggards or the Larry Craigs of this world. Just because he personable and we have seen him as friendly doesn’t mean that we just get to forgive his actions and the Scientology he has been so supportive of.

John’s “secret” has hardly been secret for a while now; pictures of him kissing another man at the Hamilton airport while filming Hairspray, the Gay porn star who claimed he slept with him before Travolta got married, and the more recent spa sex scandal.

In my mind if you are working against the Queer community then your sexual orientation is open to public scrutiny. You can’t seek to oppress us and spread lies about us one minute and then turn around and screw a dude the next - sorry sweetheart doesn’t work that way.
