After watching last night’s Glee episode (loved the black and white cheesy Christmas special) I was left with a sour taste in my mouth as the episode ended with Fynn, Rachel, Sam, and Rory ringing bells in the typical way to get people to donate to the Salvation Army.
Don’t get me wrong I’m all…
I dont agree with this. I am not at all surprised. Just because the Salvation Army is blind and prejudiced doesn’t mean the LBGT community needs to spread the same hate. Hate is hate people whether its “straight” vs “homosexual” or “homosexual” vs “straight” I actually applaud Glee showing them taking donations for Salvation Army. It shows that hate will not win no matter how large, prejudiced or, wrong any organization is.
Actually by Glee showcasing the Salvation Army it is showing that you can be hateful and prejudiced and have people look the other way and support you. Supporting an organzation like that would be the same as giving money to the National Organization for Marriage (NOM, extremely anti same-sex marriage) or to the Focus on the Family. Are you suggesting we should start giving them money or face time on gay friendly TV shows?
I’m not suggesting that we need to hate on the Salvation Army, or that Glee should have. However, giving them a “ringing” endorsement is certainly not something we need to be doing when there are plenty of other inclusive organizations that we, or the show, could support instead.
